The school is fairly average overall decent facilities, enough to get by, but nothing particularly outstanding. What really stands out, though, is the constant favoritism shown towards student leadership roles. Prefects and especially the First XV are always given priority and public acknowledgement every chance the school gets. Whether it's at assemblies, school events, or even on social media, it’s clear who the golden children are.
Support for the general student body, on the other hand, is just slightly above the bare minimum. It’s all adequate nothing more, nothing less and often feels like it’s just ticking boxes rather than genuinely helping students.
The tuck-shop is another weak point. The food is overpriced, bland, and honestly tastes terrible. For what they charge, you’d expect something at least half decent instead, it feels like a rip-off on top of already limited options.
Then there are the rules, many of which feel outdated and unnecessarily strict. Grow your hair a little too long or forget to shave for a day, and suddenly you’re being treated like a criminal. Even the smallest things can land you in hot water if you so much as challenge a teacher’s word, no matter how minor the issue.
But on a brighter note, big shoutout to Mr White and Matua Ben hands down the best teachers at the school. (a special mention to Mrs Ioka. Certified school hottie. Basically every boy’s dream woman. She’s just perfect, funny, kind, generous, and always lighting up the room. School crush material, no debate. And literally my wife fr)
Solid high school, the ups and downs balance each other out
It started going downhill when they got rid of the slushies in the tuck shop and got worse when everything increased in price. Low review for getting rid of the 5 dollar bagels those were buss
shoutout mr white, prolly did the same stuff as us at your age
love from clean sweep
ps install cameras in the studio and practice rooms, we did a lot of hooning in them
SHC is a good school to develop personal character and moral values due to the schools tradition of being a Marist school. I found that often in any activity I do I often find that I am using the skills taught to me by the school in terms of my personal character. The school has had cases of misbehaviour and poor conduct but those students are usually picked up by their friends anyway and we all look to develop wherever we can. This I can guarantee you if you come to SHC.
