Horrible teachers

Whilst the DPE departments at this school are nothing short of amazing, the teachers here seem like they don't actually understand how to teach students. Most teachers seem underqualified and recently the influx of student teachers teaching my children worsen to experience. I vividly remember being bored out of my mind whilst attending the school and not really learning anything during class times. The only times I actually enjoyed were times I could see my friends in other classes. The school just seems to be targeted towards kids that didn't pay attention in primary whilst not preparing them for collage at all. Whilst some of the teachers I have respect for, most of them were just on massive power trips and thought they were always correct. Group punishments are also common at this school, I remember having to wait 6 minutes in class before lunchtime because two students were talking. Overall, I would only recommend if your child is behind or incredibly sporty or excited about the out of class activities.

Bad education but a lot of cool activities

I am a currently a student enrolled at raroa.
This school a very cool DPE, with great activities like cooking and digitech, although the dpe is nice that's really the only thing good about the school. The education is horrible the teachers don't help when they need to and they call advice disrespect.
The learning has no incentives, when ever you finish your work they just hand you more work sheets with no care put into them at all. The teachers don't care about there teaching at all they don't even read the slides they read out before hand
I have been at raroa for nearly two years, the education is horrible and
the teachers are lazy.

Worst school ever!! Coming from former student

This school is unironically the worst I have ever been to. The only good part is DPE and the Enrichment things they do. The teachers I had in Year 8 were really bad. One of them would yell at the whole class over something like only 2 or 3 people did, and one of the other teachers was quite creepy.
I feel bad for anyone for has to learn here. at school the teachers would not bother teaching us anything insteed they let the class be noisy and let them do anthing on the chromebooks. this left me and many other students unprepared for High School. I would say I learned more maths in Years 6 than I did in Year 7 and 8 combined. If you want your child to actually learn something, send them elsewhere. Please. At least there aren't too many bullies, at least from my experience

Newlands is better

Horrible school. The teachers look the other way towards bullying. I got beaten up by another kid in front of a teacher and they told me to deal with it. Seriously don't go there. Newlands is better

Definitely not worth it

Quite good facilities, out-of-school opportunities, and a lovely library, but teachers need a total refresh— never there at the right time and unnecessarily imposing competition where it was never needed. The "education" is essentially just catching students up from primary school and severely underpreparing them for high school. Good for children who enjoy sports or enjoy being overbearingly sociable.

Superficially attractive but no substance

This school looks good and talks a good game but just doesn’t deliver. Both my kids have attended and learnt very little. Teachers think they are experts on adolescents but they really aren’t. Most of them seem to be on a power trip. Bullying is not dealt with at all well and the pastoral care is laughable. Avoid unless your child is super sporty and/or sycophantic towards teachers.
