SchoolParrot

Frequently asked questions

Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions from users, schools and reviewers.

General

What is the mission of this website?

The mission of SchoolParrot is to provide a platform for users to share their honest and constructive feedback about schools worldwide.

We aim to empower students, parents and educators by offering valuable insights into educational institutions and fostering open dialogue.

Who can post reviews?

Anyone who has firsthand experience with a school, whether as a student, parent, guardian or staff member, can post reviews on SchoolParrot.

We welcome diverse perspectives to provide a well-rounded view of each school.

Why are some reviews locked?

Some reviews are locked and can be read with a premium account. The subscription is one way we fund the platform — reading the other reviews, writing your own and saving schools is always free.

Your own review is always visible to you, and the average score is calculated across all reviews regardless of locks.

What is allowed to post on SchoolParrot?

At SchoolParrot, we believe in promoting open dialogue and allowing users to share their honest experiences and opinions about schools. We have a high tolerance for a wide range of content and encourage users to express themselves freely.

However, we also uphold certain community guidelines to ensure a respectful and constructive environment for all users. It is the responsibility of the reviewer to consider the impact of their words and to adhere to these guidelines. We have zero tolerance for content that includes name mentioning, hate speech, racism or any form of discrimination.

It is important to note that SchoolParrot serves as a neutral platform and does not take sides or defend specific opinions. Instead, we defend the principle that everyone has the right to express their opinions. Our role is to maintain a fair and inclusive community where diverse perspectives can coexist.

Who is responsible for the content listed on this website?

It is always the responsibility of the user who posts a review to be responsible for what they write.

SchoolParrot AB is responsible for acting on content reported to us and, within a timeframe, removing content that violates Swedish law.

More information can be found here: Lag (1998:112) om ansvar för elektroniska anslagstavlor.

What is the process when a review is posted on the website?

You sign in with your email address — a one-time code is sent to your inbox, no password needed. You can fill in the whole review first; signing in happens when you submit.

A submitted review can be in a few different states:

  • Under review: The review has been received but was stopped by one of our automatic filters and is awaiting manual review. It is not yet visible on the website.
  • Published: The review has been reviewed and is publicly visible on the website.
  • Declined: The review breaks our guidelines and has not been published. You are notified and can update the content.
  • Removed: The review was published but has been taken down by us due to a breach of our guidelines.

You are always notified when your review is published or declined.

How is the score calculated?

We use a method called the Bayesian average when calculating the SchoolParrot score for schools.

This is a slightly different method than the plain average and takes into account the number of reviews a school has, the average rating of all schools on SchoolParrot, and more.

With the Bayesian average it is practically impossible to reach exactly 5.0 — and equally impossible to end up at exactly 1.0. The method makes the score move more slowly than a plain average, but it becomes more accurate and stable as the number of reviews grows.

Are all reviews anonymous?

Yes and no. We never publicly show or share personal data about a reviewer. However, we do collect some information about the user during the review process.

Specifically:

  • Email address
  • IP number
  • User agent

We never share this information on request, with the exception of information requested by the police for an investigation.

Schools

How do we get started as a school?

Go to SchoolParrot for Schools (linked in the menu and the footer), pick a plan and claim your school right after checkout. You then manage your school profile, review responses and review invitations in the admin portal.

Can we as a school respond to reviews?

Yes. Schools with a SchoolParrot for Schools account can respond to reviews through the admin portal. The response is shown publicly together with the review.

How does SchoolParrot verify reviews?

Users who submit reviews on SchoolParrot verify themselves with their email address via a one-time code.

Schools can also create review invitations through our admin portal, in which case all invited members are already verified via email when accepting the invitation.

How can I remove a review about my school?

Schools cannot remove reviews. You can, however, report the review if it violates our guidelines.

To report a review you need a user account, and you will receive an automatic notification about the action we take.

I found a review that is factually incorrect. What can I do about it?

You can respond to the reviewer and explain what is wrong.

Please keep in mind that this often concerns personal opinions and can be factually correct from one point of view and factually incorrect from another.

SchoolParrot does not engage in disputes between a reviewer and a school and acts as a neutral party. SchoolParrot is a review platform, not a public authority or a court.

How can I report a review?

To report a review, use the “Report” button located near the review. Follow the instructions to submit a report. Our moderation team will review the report and take appropriate action if necessary.

I need personal data about a reviewer. Can you share that information?

We never share personal data about a reviewer on request. The only time we may share such information is if it is requested by the police.

I want my school removed from the website. How do I do that?

We do not remove schools on request.

Reviewers

How do I cancel my premium subscription?

To cancel your premium subscription, go to your account settings and look for the subscription section.

Follow the cancellation process described there. If you run into any issues, contact our support team for help.

How can I delete a review that I posted?

You can delete all reviews you have created by logging in to your account, going to “My reviews” and deleting them there.

Can I post multiple reviews about the same school?

Yes, you can post multiple reviews about the same school. However, we encourage users to let some time pass before posting another review about the same institution.

To maintain the quality and fairness of our platform, all reviews submitted by the same user for the same school are automatically flagged for manual review by our filters. This helps ensure the authenticity and integrity of the content on our website.

My review was never published. Why?

If your review is not visible yet, it is usually for one of the following reasons:

  • Under review: The review was caught by one of our automatic filters and is awaiting manual review. It is published as soon as the review is done.
  • Declined: The review was judged to break our guidelines. You receive an email about this and can update the content.

You are always notified by email when your review is published or declined — check your spam folder too.

My review has been removed from the website. Why?

Reviews that violate our community guidelines may be removed.

Do I need a password?

No. SchoolParrot does not use passwords — you sign in with your email address and receive a one-time code (or a sign-in link) by email each time.

I can no longer log in to my account. Why?

If you cannot sign in, check that you typed the correct email address and look in your spam folder for the email with the one-time code. The code is valid for a limited time — request a new one if it has expired.

If you believe your account may be suspended due to breaches of our guidelines, contact our support team for help.

How can I delete my account?

To delete your account, you need to log in to your account and go to “My profile” → “Settings”. Follow the instructions from there.

Please note that you cannot delete your account if you are a premium subscriber; you must first cancel the subscription.

Will you share my personal information with schools?

No, never directly with schools. If the content of the review you posted is unlawful and your information is requested by the police, we will share the information.
