Don’t bother
Unless your kid is 10/10 at everything (sports, academics etc) don’t bother sending them here. The culture is shitty, if you are not seen as rich enough the students won’t like you. School doesn’t deal with issues well at all. Cult like feel. The favouritism from staff is pretty gross honestly. Waste of time and money, plenty of better schools in timaru that don’t cost a fortune.

The school reminds me of a cult. It is very focused on the grades of excellence students and brings down those who have lowkey grades by “shipping them off” to Ara. There are many issues but due to the image of the school they are all swept under the carpet and anyone who dares make the school even look slightly bad are punished wayyyy too much. It’s also gery external based for those in the senior years and frowns on internal based subjects. Very restrictive and controlling of your learning. The ethos of the school is very negative. Ok that note there are a few very good teachers who I absolutely love.
