Lack of Courtesy and Respect Toward Maori Families
Iam a Maori parent; We recently parked in the staff parking area near the school so our children could play at the nearby park. We were approached by the (a lady with short hair which turns out she’s the principal) (Kim Blackwood) principal in a manner that felt unnecessarily confrontational and were told not to park there, and that the children were not allowed to use the park. Also called the towed truck to tow our ute away from nearby park.
This was quite disappointing, as the interaction felt unwelcoming and lacked understanding. Public spaces, especially parks, should be places where families feel comfortable and safe. We would have appreciated a more respectful and friendly approach to the situation.
I hope the school can reflect on how situations like this are handled in the future, as it left us with a negative impression.
The principal is a mean lady, wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone unless you want your kids to feel really down about themselves and have low self-esteem.
