Great small school close to University/West Harbour/City centre.
Our child has been attending for 18months and is thriving.
There is great focus on the core subjects; maths, reading and writing and incorporating them into the topics they investigate like gardens, healthy lifestyles, geology, marine life, China, Minecraft!
There is also a focus on values and skills around team work, inclusiveness, self management, tikanga and community.
The leadership and teachers are very experienced, knowledgeable and passionate about supporting the childrens learning and personal development.
The school facilities includes a school pool where they swim three days a week during the summer terms and are visited by local swim coaches. Full of books, the library is in the classroom so the kids can explore topics they are curious about. Often on Friday's small teams of kids cook or bake in the school kitchen a dish to share with classmates, often using ingredients sourced from the school vegtable gardens or orchard.
The school is visited by regular guests, including the local and national educational outreach programs and there are field trips roughly twice a term. The school is also part of the enviroschools network.
As working parents, we appreciate the afterschool care and holiday programs offered at the school. There is also a piano tutor who can provide weekly one-on-one lessons on the school's piano.
The staff provides great communications through a regular newsletters, social media posts, timely emails and also via the Hero app.
We enjoy Ravensbourne School a lot.
