its ehh

overall view of this school:
idk how to describe this school as its kinda different for different students. if your not christian and you have different opinions and views you will hate your time at this school. from year one to 11 or 12 you have to write memory verses and these are expected to be recited and remembered daily, but in reality, many students forget them after a while. It often feels like a time-consuming task with little long-term benefit.. if you really want good education for your child and your not christian there are tons of different options. bible classes are a bit controversial as that's the main thing that kind of made me change my opinion on christianity as a whole. different classes have different teachers and sometimes what they say don't really make sense or just contradict each other which made me loose faith. there aren't much sports but it isn't really a problem for me but if you are that could be a problem.

cons:
I don't want to just make manukau christian school sound completely bad but if your not christian some teachers really don't care about religion and from what ive taken some teachers will kinda scare you into being christian, which is basically saying this and this will happen if your not etc. homophobia is also a very big thing and many teachers and students are homophobic even though they could argue they are neutral, teachers here are also very serious about not supporting abortion and from year 8 onwards this will be a pretty big topic for a lot of people. bullying from years 1–8 is often dismissed or poorly handled. A "yellow card" is the most severe punishment in many cases, which doesn't feel like enough. detentions seem more about embarrassing students in front of parents than actually teaching a lesson. detentions just seem like humiliation to your parents rather than actual discipline. the school teaches from one strict christian perspective, which may not be helpful for students who are searching or questioning. instead of helping me explore faith, I felt more lost questioning God and my own beliefs more than ever.

pros:
academically, the school is pretty nice. there is some bias and favoritism (especially in junior years), but it's not overwhelming compared to other schools.. you pack your own lunch so yeah there not much to consider on that. if you are christian bible classes are kinda good but for me it kinda changed my perspective on religion but im just an overthinking, or god made me an overthinker. although sports are rare, the school does try to offer at least one activity per term or every second term which I mean for a small school their trying there best.

mental health:
I want to say compared to other schools its good but for me it's deteriorating me every second. bullying has made me depressed and we don't really have mental health stuff but this school has tried when a teacher gave a speech on her old mental life but it just kinda seemed like another threat to 'act good'. it was definitely trying to come across as good as the name was 'consequences have actions' but for me it wasn't. going a bit deeper, teachers dont really care about your mental health as I sh and they've probably seen it but its also very understandable because sometimes you just wanna be left alone. the students are judgmental especially towards those lower age groups.

summary (made by chatgpt)

Manukau Christian School can be a very different experience depending on your personal beliefs. If you're not Christian or you hold differing worldviews, you may find the environment unwelcoming or even harmful. The school heavily emphasizes Christian teachings — including daily memory verses and Bible classes — which can feel forced and repetitive, especially if you’re questioning your faith or coming from a different background.

Academically, the school provides a decent education with some favoritism, particularly in the lower years. Sports and extracurricular options are limited, though the school makes some effort given its small size.

However, there are serious concerns around how the school handles religion, diversity, mental health, and bullying. Some teachers may use fear-based approaches to push religious beliefs, and issues like homophobia, anti-abortion messaging, and lack of serious bullying policies are common. Mental health support is minimal, and efforts in this area often feel more like discipline than genuine care.

In short, if you're Christian and aligned with the school's values, you might have a positive experience. But if you're not, you may find the environment isolating, controlling, and damaging to your personal well-being.

take this with a grain of salt or sugar as this is my experience
