Balanced Approach Needed Amid Transparency and Leadership Issues

I had high hopes for Maidstone Intermediate, including its emphasis on indigenous culture, which is an important aspect of our heritage. However, I feel that the school’s focus on this has become too extreme, overshadowing other cultures and perspectives. While it's crucial to honour and teach indigenous language and traditions, a more balanced approach would better serve the students and community.

Additionally, the school frequently requests fundraising money, yet there is little to show for where these funds are going. It’s frustrating to see constant appeals for donations without any visible improvements or results.

On a positive note, the teachers are genuinely kind and seem dedicated to their students’ success. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the principal, whose leadership style leaves much to be desired, and there is a general lack of responsiveness to parents' concerns.
The disciplinary process is unfair, as the entire class is punished or kept in if one child misbehaves, which creates a negative and unjust environment for the students. Access to toilets is also limited, which is concerning for the well-being and comfort of the children.

Overall, while the cultural emphasis and fundraising issues are significant drawbacks, the dedication of the teaching staff is commendable. With better leadership and a more inclusive curriculum, the school has the potential to be much better than it is.

Sport sport sport

Went there 1999 - 2000. Hated it. Form 2 camp on the first day of the year was an absolute nightmare.

A lot of the kids were little 'shirts'. I guess that's the age group.

This school was and is crazy about sport. If your kid is more academic, consider putting them somewhere else.

Good range of classes, but I found some of the teachers really strange. They'd be all gone from there now though!
