The teachers seem to only care about some students. Other students, especially brown and black students, and LGBT students seem to fall through the cracks. They lie and threaten, and teachers have withdrawn me from MULTIPLE standards without asking me first. There are so many rich white trump supporters it's kind of funny. My girlfriend and I were holding hands in PE and someone literally punched us for being gay and I was treated so badly in PE I stopped going.
However, there are amazing activities and a lot of teachers take bullying very seriously. Some don't. The school nurses suck, but some of the school counselors are amazing.
The classes are generally calm and quiet, and we learn lots. If you have questions, the teachers answer them. There are so many students that you'll definitely find people to be friends with.
The school seems to care more about their image than the students there
This school has great resources and allows students to achieve great things. There are many opportunities and it’s very welcoming as a new student. Sometimes it can get a bit much, some students are very mean and there is on going subtle racism that gets shoved under the rug.
An overall alright school.
This school creates a culture of over-achieving and placing our value as people on our academic results. The routine is so monotonous and there is no room for students who need variety and flexibility to help them learn better. Generally, the teachers have a huge superiority complex and treat the students in a degrading, childish way. No self reliance skills get made, doesn’t prepare you for the real world. Also very hard to fit in with the students if you don’t fit in to the typical teenage girl narrative - but regardless of that, I think all students would agree that the atmosphere is toxic.
However, for the most part, the teachers make efforts to be accepting of students identities and support systems for those that are struggling are pretty accessible. Campus and facilities are great.
Overall though, did not enjoy my time here. Burned me out, as it did to many other students. I guess a positive outcome of attending this school is that it made me extra extra grateful for real life, once I left that toxic, over sheltered and constricting bubble.
Has a wide range of subjects to choose from which helps a lot. When you choose your year 11 subjects that lead onto NCEA, choose carefully because it helps a lot. Eggs information evenings are really good if you need to get information. I think they could have been a little bit better with online learning, and giving us a little more time to focus on our externals. Really nice school, with lots of extra curricular activities!
